William Edward (Billy) Highsmith, 75, of Fayetteville passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 from complications of COVID. Billy was born on May 10, 1946 in Wilmington, NC to the late Cecil James Highsmith and Cornelia Walker Highsmith. Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Alan Lee Highsmith and Cecil James (Jimmy) Highsmith, Jr.
He is survived by his fiancée, Barbara Meek; brother, James D. (Danny) Highsmith, and wife, Faye; nephews James D. (Jay) Highsmith, Jr. of Fayetteville and Alan Walker Highsmith of Hudson, FL. Billy grew up in Fayetteville and after several years working in the oil industry in Louisiana and Texas, he moved back to Fayetteville where he distinguished himself operating several restaurants.
In addition, he also served at one time as manager of the Wachovia Building and as manager of Clarendon House, both located in Fayetteville. Billy was a person who loved helping others. Cooking meals for friends and others who might need help was something he was always doing without any fanfare. He was comfortable assisting both the wealthy and the down and out of our society.
Funeral services for Billy Highsmith will be Wednesday, October 20 at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church, where he was a long-time member. There will be a visitation from 12 Noon – till 2 PM, followed by the service. Interment after the service will be at Lafayette Memorial Park.
