U.S. Army retired Staff Sgt. Charles âChuckâ Louis Balch Jr., of Linden, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2014, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
He was born on Dec. 10, 1937, in Becket, Mass., to the late Charles Louis Balch Sr. and Ellen Smithies Balch.
He was a retired U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and also previously served in the U.S. Navy receiving numerous medals and commendations.
After his 20 years in the Army and four years in the U.S. Navy, owned and operated ABC Appliance Repair Company. He also was a member of Arran Lake Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Armstrong and Butch Orson Balch.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Valerie Siwicki Balch of Linden; two daughters, Mary-Ellen Balch Perez of Fayetteville, and Debbie Harris of Prince George, Va.; a son, Dr. Charles Louis Balch III and his wife, Sally Nunnery Balch, of Fayetteville; six grandchildren, Amanda Louise Watkins and husband Vincent Watkins, PJ Harris, Charles Louis Balch IV, Caroline Grace Balch, Natalia Esther Perez and Curtis Edward Balch.
He is also survived by two sisters, Ellen Pelletier and Dorothy Foy; and a brother, Richard Balch.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 23, 2014, from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at Sullivanâs Highland Funeral Service & Crematory.
Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. in Sullivanâs Highland Funeral Service chapel with Dr. Jeff Isenhour officiating. Burial with the rendering full military honors will be held at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.
