U.S. Army Ret. SGM Jose Martinez, 80, of Fayetteville, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2016, surrounded by family at his home.
He was born on January 28, 1935, in Havana, Cuba.
He was a Vietnam War Veteran serving two tours as a Combat Medic and was the recipient of The Bronze Star and numerous other medals and commendations. Jose retired with the U.S. Army with 30 years of honorable service to his country.
Jose is survived by his wife, Margareta Zoller Martinez, of the home; one daughter Annette Choat, of Coker, AL; three sons, Michael Martinez, and wife Anjanette, of Fayetteville, NC, Jose Martinez, Jr., of the home, and Robert Martinez, and wife Lisa, of Hope Mills, NC; four grandchildren John, Eric, Logan, and Michael, Jr.; two great-grandchildren Aniya and Grayson.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Sullivanâs Highland Funeral Service.
