U.S. Army Ret. Lt. Col. Vernon Charles Ballard
US Army Ret. Lt. Col. Vernon Charles Ballard, 71, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, passed away on Sunday October 18, 2015.
He was born on July 15, 1944, in Harnett County, NC to Charles Brodie Ballard and Mary McLean Ballard.
Lt. Col. Ballard was a 1967 graduate of North Carolina State University. He was a skilled aviator and a wonderful father. His kindness and selfless attitude will live on through the family and friends who loved him.
Lt. Col. Ballard is survived by his older brother Curtis Ballard and his wife Carol Ballard of Chattanooga, TN; his younger sister Marilyn Ballard Gardner of Fuquay-Varina, NC; his ex-wife Dr. Brenda Alcover-Ballard, and his two sons Andrew Brodie Ballard and Austin Brandon Ballard of Fayetteville, NC.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 23, 2015 from 10:45 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. at Sullivan's Highland Funeral Service. Funeral Services will follow in Sullivan's Highland Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Archie Barringer officiating. Private burial will follow in Chalybeate Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, in Fuquay-Varina.
