U.S. Army Ret. Lt. Col. Howard Paul Schumacher, 72, of Fayetteville, NC, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on December 7, 1943 in Baltimore, MD to the late Howard Henry Schumacher and Sadie Taylor Schumacher.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War retiring with over 21 years of honorable service. He was the recipient of numerous medals and commendations to include The Bronze Star, Meritorious Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Air Medal.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 46 years Georgia Schumacher, of the home; a daughter Kelly Schumacher Nalitz and husband Adam, of Charlotte, NC; a son Howard âAndyâ Schumacher, of Bladenboro, NC; five grandchildren Audrey Schumacher, Morgan Schumacher, Isabella Nalitz, Jocelyn Nalitz and Kellan Nalitz; two sisters Virginia Bowling, of Glen Burnie, MD and Barbara Santos of Wyalusing, PA, and a host of family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 5, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 pm. at Sullivanâs Highland Funeral Service. Funeral services will follow at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery with the rendering of full military honors.
