U.S. Army Ret. CSM James E. Conaway, Sr

U.S. Army Ret. CSM James E. Conaway, Sr., 85, of Fayetteville, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2016.

James was born and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina. He proudly served 22 ½ years in the United States Army, rising to the rank of Command Sergeant Major.

James is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Eva; his daughter, Dianne Crnkovic; four brothers ,Charles, Scott, Freeman and John; two sisters Evelyn Marker and Betty Darden.

James is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy; three sons, James, Jr. (Bea), Robert (June), and Dennis (Jenny); six grandchildren, Rodney, Dara (Jeremy), Danny (Sarah), Andrea (Drew), Mary Katherine and Thomas James; five great-grandchildren, Krystal, Hailey, Alexis, Jameson and Ryann; and one brother Donald Conaway; and one sister Eva Johnston.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Sullivan's Highland Funeral Service.  A funeral service officiated by the Rev. Wayne Stallings will follow at 2:00 p.m..  Interment will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park West  located at 6701 Raeford Road.

Our hero, our mentor, our anchor is gone but his love and the lessons he instilled in us remain.
