Todd McFadyen Sullivan, 37, of Fayetteville passed away Monday, November 21, 2011 after a long battle with cancer.
A native of Fayetteville, Todd graduated from Christ School in Arden, NC in 1993. He also graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 1998.
Todd returned to Fayetteville in 2003 from Wilmington, NC to work with his father at Sullivan’s Highland Funeral Service. He enjoyed spending his free time traveling around the world, bird hunting, golfing, and spending time with his wife, many friends, and his two dogs: a golden retriever, Molly, and a labrador retriever, Gracie.
Todd served on the Foundation Board for Fayetteville Technical Community College and was an advocate for Ducks Unlimited and the Duke Cancer Institute. In 2011, The Fayetteville Observer selected Todd as one of its “40 Under Forty” as a rising leader for both success in business and community involvement.
He is survived by his wife, best friend, and angel through his cancer fight, Jennifer Hanes Sullivan of Fayetteville; his parents, Martha and Bob Sullivan of Fayetteville; his sister Gretchen McDuffie and husband Tripp of Raleigh; his sister Karen Mercer and husband Edward of Hoschton, Georgia; his grandmother, Marjorie Clark of Fayetteville, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and a niece.
Todd was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Edna and Harvel Sullivan and his maternal grandfather, Wilbur Clark.
There will be a memorial service held at Highland Presbyterian Church on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 1 p.m. with Dr. J. Ernest Johnson officiating. There will be a reception in the church fellowship hall following the service.
We would like to recognize a number of medical teams at the Duke University Cancer Institute and Hospital. The staff there joined in our fight and gave us six wonderful years that we were not guaranteed.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Todd’s memory to Christ School at 500 Christ School Road, Arden, NC 28704 or the Duke Cancer Institute for Research Support in care of the Office of Development DUMC Box 3828, Durham, NC 27710.
