Thomas Hector Furmage went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 21st 2024, completing his earthly journey of 91 years, with his loving wife of 70 years by his side.
Tommy was born March 18, 1933, in Parkton NC. He married the love of his life, Myrtle Brigman Furmage, on October 15, 1954. He served in the Parkton Army National Guard. He was a farmer for over 30 years and then began a second career as a carpenter in the maintenance department with the Cumberland County School System where he retired after 30 years. He loved his career in the school system and cherished all the friendships he developed. He was active in his local church, Parkton Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, choir member, various boards and committees, Brotherhood Committee and janitor. He was also involved in the community as an active member of the Ruritan Club and the Parkton High School Reunion Committee. He was an instrumental member of the group that assisted in connecting Parkton with Fayetteville by phone, making the call from Parkton to Fayetteville a local call and no longer a long-distance call as well as the committee that assisted in bringing a medical doctor and office back to the town of Parkton.
He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Hector John Furmage and Lois Council Furmage and his infant sister, Eleanor Hope Furmage.
He is survived by his wife Myrtle Brigman Furmage, children, Ramona L Furmage, Marie Furmage Marus (Jeff), and Hector J Furmage (Susan), grandchildren, Jeffrey Council Marus (Marci), Abby Marus Thompson (Denny), Carolyn Furmage Campbell (Evan), and Grace Elizabeth Furmage, great-grandchildren, Elle and Issac Thompson, sister, Judy Furmage Capps, sister-in-law Shirley Brigman Turriff (George),nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who greatly blessed his life.
The family is extremely grateful to all those at Hope Mills Retirement Center who loved and cared for Tommy.
Tommy loved his Lord, family, friends, community and country.
The family will receive friends Saturday November 2 from 12:30-2pm at Sullivan’s Highland Funeral Home located at 610 Ramsey Street Fayetteville NC 28301 with the funeral service to follow immediately. A burial will follow at Green Springs Baptist Church Parkton NC.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift may be made to Parkton Baptist Church.
Services are entrusted to Sullivan's Highland Funeral Service & Crematory.
