The Rev. Allen Halstead Grammer, 93, of Fayetteville, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Woodlands Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Fayetteville.
He was born on October 31, 1920 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Allen Leonard Grammer and Malvina Halstead.
He was a WWII U.S. Coast Guard Veteran, having served proudly in the Pacific for two years. He was the founding pastor of Pilgrim Church in Wheaton, Maryland and continued pastoring until the illness of his wife required his full attention. He is loved by all who knew him and he will be sorely missed.
He is survived by two sons Rev. Chip Grammer and wife, Bobbie Lou, of Fayetteville, NC and Robert "Red" Crane and wife, Jan, of Upland, CA: one daughter Barrett "Barrie" Shindler, and husband Billy, of Shrewsbury, NJ; two step Daughters Debbie Catron , and husband Phil, of Ijamsville, MD and CJ Negola, and her husband Danny, of Gaithersburg, MD; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Sherwood Presbyterian Church with Rev. Chip Grammer officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service.
