(Ret.) LTC Robert Paul Turpin, 90, of Fayetteville, passed away on January 14, 2025.
He was born in New York City, NY on June 11, 1934, to the late Louis and Ella Turpin. Also, preceding Robert in death was his sister, Maddy Smith, brother, Tom Turpin, and nephew, Lin Smith.
Robert enjoyed playing basketball and baseball in high school. He continued playing baseball in college for the Long Island University Blackbirds. Later this love of sports would find him an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves, Dallas Cowboys and University of Georgia Bulldogs.
His military career took him to many places, but Germany was one of his favorites.
After retiring from service, he utilized some of his skills and became a private investigator for a local law firm.
He and his wife loved to vacation at Myrtle Beach inviting their kids and grandkids to join. Many special trips will be fondly remembered.
Left to cherish Robert’s memory is his wife, Catherine Turpin; two sons, Paul Turpin (Penny) and Clay Turpin (Alison); three grandchildren, Amy, DeBow, and Spencer, nieces, Judy Smith and Linda Vanderostyne, and other extended family.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., March 14, 2025 at Sandhills State Veteran Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to American Cancer Society.
