Robert Lee Perry, 83, of Fayetteville, NC died on June 6, 2013 at Hospice of Wake County in Raleigh, NC. Robert was born February 21, 1930, in Wilson, North Carolina, to Theo Wilson Perry and Paree Perry. He was one of 3 children, sister, Gwen Perry Harper and brother, Dan Perry (deceased). He attended Charles L. Coon High School in Wilson and following graduation, and service in the Air Force, met the love of his life, Phyllis Moore Perry (deceased).  They were married August 13, 1955.

Robert and Phyllis moved to Fayetteville where his life centered on raising their children and providing selfless love and care, dedicating himself to meeting their every need. Robert worked for over 30 years for Carolina Telephone and Telegraph Company, first as a linesman then in customer service.  Robert also was proud to have served as President of the local Communications Workers of America employee union, working hard on behalf of his fellow co-workers.

He is survived by his children, Robin Costello and husband John of Raleigh, Sandy Ruhlen and husband, Brent of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Robert Jr. of Fayetteville and Phillip Perry and wife, Theresa of Fayetteville.  Grandchildren are Brooke Shields, Lindsey Costello, Robert Lee Perry III (deceased), Abigail Costello, Olivia Costello, Zachary Ruhlen, and Nicholas Perry; Great Grandchildren Joseph and Evelyn Shields; his sister, and many loving relatives.

The celebration of Robert’s life will be held at Sullivan’s Highland Funeral Service in Fayetteville on Monday, June 10 at 2:00 pm. Family will receive guests from 1:00 until 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or Humane Society of Eastern NC.

He was dearly loved by family and friends everywhere. His genuine kindness to all, optimism and humor will be greatly missed.
