Retired US Army COL Robert T. “Bob” Cherry, 95, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully at his home on November 18, 2021.
Bob was born in Washington, NC to the late Frank and Lilly Cherry on September 21, 1926. He joined the US Army and fought in World War II. Upon his return he left the service and then rejoined during the Korean Conflict. Afterwards, he remained in the US Army Reserves until retiring in 1986.
Bob was a graduate of East Carolina Teachers College where he received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees and later he earned his Doctorate from Nova University.
Bob worked with Civil Service and was the Deputy Director of the Army Education Center at Ft. Bragg.
A graveside service with Military Honors will be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at 11 am in LaFayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street with Rev. Sandy Saunders presiding.
Bob is survived by his wife, Minnie Cherry of the home; three children, Robert T. Cherry, Jr. (Christy) of Boca Raton, FL, Minnie Stoker of Fayetteville, and Albert F. Cherry (Lynn) of Fayetteville; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three brothers.
