I was Rob's Platoon Sergeant with Det 1/A 229 Combat Engineers in Afghanistan in 2004-05. When first alerted the battalion had already mobilized so we had to gather an ad hoc group of volunteers and new privates. Rob was one of the first to volunteer. He became the third squad leader and we were lucky. Rob brought instant credibility to the platoon leadership. His active duty time with the 82nd as a paratrooper and Ranger tab gave him great experience and knowledge. More importantly his calm demeanor and care for his charges was evident to all. If you screwed up or something was wrong all Buss had to do was look at you to get the message across. He did not scream at subordinates or beat his chest. He was a quiet leader who was reliable, led from the front, and was loved by those he led and those that knew him. All respected him. I am proud to have served with Rob and will always be grateful for our association.

I will miss you nephew. Enjoyed the poker games and war stories. You will always be in my thoughts. Have a shot of Jack Daniels on me.

A good man that I regret not know better. You will be missed Rob. Those at Cisco remember you well and our place is a little darker without you.

So sad to hear of Rob's passing. We had so much fun growing up in holly hill and penn mar apts back in the 80's. My thoughts and prayers go out to family. Rest in peace Rob. Love you man.

I was truly saddened to hear of Rob's passing. He and I worked together at Cisco for several years. I will miss the questions he'd send me on Webex where I would think "Really, Rob?" and then help him with whatever network concern he was supporting. Rob faced it all with humor and his kind heart. Godspeed, Rob.

I have had the honor of working with Rob since back in 2012 when we were both at Cisco but on different teams. I remember running into him in the break room and just making small talk as we were waiting for coffee to finish brewing and he came across as a friendly, easy going person. Then back in 2014, we found ourselves on the same team at Cisco and I was able to truly get to know him as a solid co-worker, a person concerned about others just as much as himself, always humorous and with a quick wit, and totally dependable in all situations. Rob gave us a scare a few years ago when he suffered a brain injury while at the beach but after returning to work following his recovery, he rebounded totally and was just as capable an engineer if not more so afterward. I remember giving him hell about his PT Cruiser but always jokingly and Rob was never one to take issue when I made playful comments on his ride. Rob was simply a great person and a friend I had expected to know for many years to come. The more I think of this tragic happening, the more I come to realize the world would be a better place if it still had Rob riding his Harley and just being the Bussius that we have all come to know here at Cisco and to appreciate. He will be missed by everyone on his team.
