Richard Allen Matthews, Sr.

Richard A. Matthews, Sr., 74, of Swansboro, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2022.

He was born in Dunn, to the late Howard and Elma Matthews on May 14, 1948.  He proudly served in the Army in the Infantry during the Vietnam War.

Richard retired as a lineman from South River EMC after 41 years of dedicated service.  He enjoyed camping and cruising with his family.  Key West, FL was his favorite place to visit.

Left to cherish Richard’s memory is his wife of 54 years, Alice; daughter, Angie Renegar and husband Roger of Swansboro; son, Allen Matthews of Carolina Beach; sisters, Linda Jones of Godwin and Ellen Davis and husband Ray of VA; sisters-in-law, Linda Lee of Wade and Nora Cain of Stanley; and his beloved pup, Stewie.

Flowers are welcome but donations may be made to Home Health and Hospice of Carteret County, at 3722 Bridges Street, Suite 201, Morehead City, NC 28557.

A graveside service is planned for 11am on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at Old Bluff Presbyterian Church Cemetery with military honors.

Services are entrusted to Sullivan’s Highland Funeral Service & Crematory.
