Ms. Rachel McDaniel Faircloth, 89, of Fayetteville, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, in Cape Fear Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late L.S. âJackâ and Josephine âJosieâ Paschal McDaniel. She is survived by her son, David W. Faircloth and wife Joanie of Raleigh; and daughters, Lynda F. Deaton and husband Clayton William âBillâ Deaton, Jr. of Fayetteville, Julia F. Cooper of Asheville; and daughter-in-law, Linda Faircloth Jones and husband Jimmy of Panama City, Fla. Other close family members include her beloved brother, Dr. Jack P. McDaniel and wife Janice; and sisters-in-law, Hazel Faircloth Clark and Peggy Tally McDaniel of Fayetteville.
She was preceded in death by her son, Jack Leon Faircloth; and her grandson, Jack Dewayne Faircloth. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Robert McDaniel, Bruce McDaniel and Earl McDaniel; and her sisters, Sybil Pennington and Edith Page.
For nearly seven decades, she was an entrepreneur in the floral industry, having owned McDaniel-Faircloth Florist and later Fayetteville Floral Co. During her career, she trained and mentored many individuals that became successful floral designers. She served her community through the Longleaf Pine Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and rose to the position of Worthy Matron. She was past president of the Pilot Club. She was a longtime member of Hay Street United Methodist Church, where she served on the Council on Ministries and other committees. She was a past treasurer of the Homeowners Association of Clarendon House, where she lived for many years. Governor James G. Martin awarded her the prestigious Order of the Long Leaf Pine.
Her grandchildren include: Charles Leon Faircloth and wife Debbie, Darlene Faircloth Beasley of Panama City, Jennifer Faircloth Harlow and husband Todd of Atlanta, Meredith Faircloth Phillips and husband Clay of Charlotte, Clayton William âWillâ Deaton III and wife Brooke of Fayetteville, and Becky Cooper McAllister and husband William âBillyâ Crawford McAllister of Wake Forest. Her seven great-grandchildren include: Ryan Faircloth, Alyssa Faircloth, Savannah Beasley, and Lauren Rachel Beasley of Panama City, George Raymond Phillips and Dorothy Collins Phillips of Charlotte, and Eli William Deaton of Fayetteville. The family acknowledges special mention of J.O. Carter Jr., a dedicated and loyal friend, and nephew Earl McDaniel Jr. and his wife, Bridgett, along with many beloved nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Clayton William Deaton III, Leon Faircloth, Earl McDaniel Jr., William Crawford McAllister, Todd Harlow and Clay Phillips. Services will be conducted by Sullivanâs Highland Funeral Service & Crematory in Fayetteville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 3 p.m. The funeral service will follow immediately with interment in Lafayette Memorial Park on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012.
