FAYETTEVILLE -
Peter C. Partiss, 78, of Fayetteville, died Monday, April 16, 2012, after a long illness.
He was born July 10, 1933, in Buffalo, N.Y., to Molly Freehan and Arnold Partiss, and grew up in Bradford, Pa. Peter was a Korean War and Vietnam War veteran. He served 23 years in the Army as a Master Sergeant in the 101st Airborne Division.
Survivors include his loving wife of 33 years, Jean Bowlus Partiss. Peter's surviving children are Jeff Partiss (Teresa) of Indiana, and Kristy Urbano of Arizona; and his sister, Pam Bizarro (Joe) of Atascadero, Calif. He is also survived by 12 stepchildren, Eileen Sherman (Charlie) of Indiana, Paul Rittenhouse of Washington, Ruth Rittenhouse of Georgia, Ellen Jenkins (Terry) of North Carolina, Mark Rittenhouse of Indiana, Teresa Patton (John) of Maryland, David Rittenhouse of Indiana, Clare Foss (Terry) of Maryland, Judith Smith (Bill) of California; Christine Born (Brad) of Indiana, Sarah Taylor of Indiana, and Abe Rittenhouse of Pennsylvania. He was "Opa" to 21 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He also had many cousins, nieces, nephews and many loyal friends.
He was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Susan Rittenhouse of Indiana.
Peter loved showing off his Volkswagen bus named Sassy and attending car shows and cheering for the Washington Redskins. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR, and Jeff Gordon was his favorite driver. He loved fishing, his dogs and spending time with his family and grandchildren and going to The HealthPlex.
A memorial service for Peter C. Partiss will be at Sullivan's Highland Funeral Service & Crematory, 610 Ramsey St., in Fayetteville. Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 tonight, Thursday, April 19, 2012.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society or The Heart and Lung Association.
