Peggy passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 15, 2017. She was born in Fayetteville, NC on November 30, 1938 and lived most of her life there. Peggy was known for her quiet, loving nature, for her cooking ability and for her service to those in need. She loved children and spent most of her life caring for them at the hospital, Kindercare and for the children of Dr. and Mrs. Walsh who she lovingly regarded as her second family. She was a devoted member of Village Baptist Church for over thirty years. Many of her life-long friendships were with members of her Sunday school class. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher Smith Sr., her brother, Fletcher Smith Jr., and her sister, Marian Smith Hulon. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Cribb Conway (husband, Michael Conway), grandsons, Seth and Luke Conway, sister, Nell Sexton and a number of nieces and nephews. A special thank you to her sister, Nell who was a lifelong, loving presence in Peggy’s life. Also, a special thank you to niece, Dawn Hulon Baker, for her loving dedication and care during the last year. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation, the American Cancer Society and/or to Cumberland County Humane Society in memory of her pet dog, Lady. A graveside service will be held at Lafayette Memorial Park on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Online condolences may be expressed at www.sullivanshighland.com.
