MSG (Ret.) Spencer Warren Gay

US Army MSG (Ret.) Spencer Warren Gay, 91, 0f Fayetteville, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

He was born in Edgecombe County, on January 20, 1933, to the late Joseph and Frances Gay. Also preceding him in death was his son, David Gay; siblings, Joseph L. Gay, Edward R. Gay, William L. Gay, and Joseph P. Gay.

Spencer proudly served in the 11th Airborne Division and Special Forces. As a Green Beret he spent time in Germany, Korea, and Vietnam, where he earned numerous commendations.

Left to cherish Spencer’s memory is his wife of 48 years, Jackie Sessoms Gay; son, Spencer Eugene Gay; siblings, Paul Bailey and Joyce Gay Warren; sisters-in-law, Betty Lou Gay, Pat Gay, and An Gay; granddaughters, Chloe N. Gay and Cayli N. Gay; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

A memorial service will be held at Sullivan's Highland Funeral Service on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at 11:00 am. Inurnment will follow at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.
