Mary Kathryn Stahlbush, 89, of Fayetteville, passed away at Carolina Inn, on Tuesday, February, 3, 2015.

Kathryn was born on March 4, 1925, in New York, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Frederick and Alice Stahlbush.  Kathryn and her brother, Charles, were raised in the town of Stuyvesant, along the Hudson River.

Kathryn enjoyed swimming, bicycling, and cross country skiing during her younger days.  After college, she became a nurse for the Veterans Administration Hospital System where she was fortunate to have the opportunity to live in various cities across the United States.  She was especially passionate regarding her patients from her days working in the Psychological Ward. While working and during retirement, she enjoyed traveling throughout North America.  Kathryn enjoyed volunteering with Catholic Charities for twenty plus years after her retirement from the VA.
She is survived by her niece, Barbara van den Berg and husband, Hank, of Lincoln, NE; nephews, Bill Stahlbush and wife, Bonnie of Tucson, AZ, Gene Stahlbush of Webster, NY, Fred Stahlbush and wife, Judy, of Bellingham, WA, and Roy Stahlbush of Ft. Collins, CO; numerous grand nieces and grand nephews, and dear friends, Mary O’Hern of Albany, NY, Mary Potter of Fayetteville, Ruth Munson of Madison, WI, and Jerry, Madeline, and Doug Strepay of Bellingham, WA.

The family will receive friends from 9:45 am to 10:45 am on Saturday, February 7, 2015.  A memorial service conducted by Padre Leon, will follow in the chapel of Sullivan’s Highland Funeral Service at 11:00 am.  An inurnment will be performed in Hudson, NY at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Catholic Charities, 590 Cedar Creek Road, Fayetteville, NC  28312.

Kathryn’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Jerry Strepay for his dedication to his friend, Kathryn and Nancy Peterson and her staff at Carolina Inn for the exceptional care that was given to Katherine.
