Ms. Barbara Davenport

Barbara Davenport, 54, of Fayetteville, passed away at her home on Tuesday, May 24, 2016.

She was born in Bangor, ME on July 26, 1961 to Mr. and Mrs. David and Margaret Davenport, Sr.

She spent many years of dedicated service with the Cumberland County Sherriff’s Office before retiring in 2003.  She was recently inducted as a fully patched member of the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club.  She loved riding and working on her motorcycle, and would tell anyone who asked, and some who didn’t, about her 1989 Yamaha Virago.  She opened her heart and home to animals in need of rescue, and would do anything she could to help friends or family in need.  Many who knew Barbara (or Bobbin, as she was called by family and friends as a child) called her the strongest person they have ever known.

Barbara made it a point to enjoy “the little things” and to urge everyone who visited her to do so as well.  She loved to cook, especially for her family.  She especially enjoyed the beach, hummingbirds, and the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, which is where her remains will be buried.

Barbara is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Conn and husband, Patrick, Alicia Gomez of Fayetteville; granddaughter, Makayla Gomez of Fayetteville; daughter-in-law, Kasie Brown; parents, David and Margaret Davenport, Sr. of Bunnlevel; sisters, Dixie Davenport and husband, Jayme Clark of Columbus, OH, Lisa Davenport of Durham, CT; brothers, David Davenport, Jr. and John Davenport both of Bunnlevel; cherished friend, Bill Gomez of Fayetteville, nephew, Chris Frazier of Tallahassee, FL; great nephews Trent and Leo Frazier of Tallahassee, FL; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, and fur babies, Boxcar Willie and Hobo Jack.

A memorial service is planned for 3 pm on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, 1505 Ft. Bragg Rd., Fayetteville, NC.  The family will receive friends one hour prior.

In lieu of flowers please make contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or The American Cancer Society.
