Mrs. Vicki Frances Millspaugh-McKenzie, 65, of Fayetteville, NC passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2015.
Now, how do you sum up someoneâs life in one page, especially someone so special to so many people, especially someone like Vicki McKenzieâ¦? Hereâs our attempt.
Vicki was born August 12, 1949 in Newark, Ohio to Mrs. Doris Millspaugh and the late Robert Gordon Millspaugh. She has two sisters, Pam Harig and Barbara Jones; and a brother, Rick Millspaugh.
Vicki was a dedicated member of the staff of Fayetteville State University, where she worked for 33 years. She received many achievement awards for performance and affected many lives, students and faculty alike. âMany students received their diplomas because of Vicki. They came to her with a problem with credits and/or transfers and she was able to work her magic and get it all figured out. Even with the rudest of person needing help, Vicki always was a very kind and helpful person.â âBeth Bir. It was there that she met two of her best friends, Kathy Ditty and the aforementioned, Beth Bir. Vicki met Kathy at the very beginning of her career in 1976 and they became very close and shared in many great adventures, one of the most surprising being sky diving. Beth, although entering Vickiâs life a few years later, also became a very close and vital friend to Vicki and they share many fond memories.
In the summer of 1982, Vicki met her husband Brad McKenzie, through their mutual friend, Kathy. They were married on April 7th 1984. In 1985, they welcomed to the world their first daughter, Kathryn McKenzie, now 30, who now lives in Sanford with her fiancé, Rob Thornton, and their son, Lucas Thornton. In 1989, they brought home their second daughter, Camryn McKenzie, 26 of Wilmington. Vickiâs devotion to her family was unsurpassed. She raised her children on the foundations of love and respect for all things great and small. She taught her family to appreciate the things that they had and the time they shared together. One of her favorite places to visit was the beach. She loved the feel of the sand beneath her feet and the relaxing sounds of the ocean. When visiting the aquariums one of her daughterâs fondest memories was how Vicki would love to sit and watch the fish swim beneath the water. âShe says it was relaxing and peaceful and that she could sit and watch all day.â âKathryn. Her youngest daughter remembers, âWhen Momma wanted to go somewhere, she would go. If she wanted to go home to Ohio to visit, weâd go. If she wanted to go to the beach or the mountains, she was packing us up and going. Nothing stopped her.â âCamryn.
During her time at Fayetteville State University she developed her love of education and English into a passionate career. She obtained her Masterâs Degree in English in December of 2004 and began teaching introductory English at the university while maintaining her other duties as an advisement and transfers counselor.
She was very compassionate and had a huge heart, especially for animals. Many of her pets were rescues and if she had it her way she would have made a home for all shelter animals. âWhen I get older and I retire, I want a huge farm, a couple of acres, and just have dogs of all shapes and sizes roaming around. Doesnât that sound nice?â âVicki. For this reason per Vicki, In lieu of flowers: Please donate to the Cumberland County Animal Shelters and/or Animal Haven.
Vicki McKenzie never liked anyone to make a big fuss over her, not even in her passing. She also never liked the idea of being buried in a box underground as a âfinal resting place.â Therefore, she is to be cremated and her ashes to be scattered at a later date to be determined by her family.
Vicki was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be forever missed but never forgotten. All those lucky enough to have known her will rejoice knowing that she is now in the good hands of our Lord and is finally Home.
âI know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love.â âLeo Buscaglia
