Sarah Ann Hamilton Kimball, formerly of Fayetteville, died Monday, May 1, 2017, after a lengthy illness. Sarah was born on July 26, 1929, in Smithfield, NC, to Martha Ann King and Johnny Jasper (Jack) Hamilton, also both of Johnston County, NC.
Sarah was pre-deceased by her husband of 49 years, Charles Leonard Kimball, in 2001, and by her brother, Jack Tunney Hamilton, of Charlotte, in 1999.
She is survived by her daughter, Martha Ann Kimball McLean and husband, Kenneth Bridger McLean, of Hillsborough; grandson, John Bridger McLean and wife, Amy, of South Bend, Indiana; granddaughter, Anne Kimball McLean of Hillsborough; sister-in-law Paula Buie Hamilton, of Matthews, along with many nieces, nephews, and their families.
Many of Sarah’s formative years and best childhood memories were spent in Smithfield at Centenary UMC and at her father’s business, Austin and Hamilton’s Clothing Store. Sarah was a 1951 graduate of Woman’s College of The University of NC (now UNC-G) where upon graduation she greatly enjoyed her work at the North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (now NC State University) in the College of Agricultural Sciences personnel and accounting departments. After Sarah and Charley moved to Fayetteville, Sarah was an active member of Highland Presbyterian Church, community service organizations, and alumnae efforts for her alma mater, UNC-G.
The family will gather for a graveside Service of Death and Resurrection on Wednesday, May 3, at Lafayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 117 S. Academy Street, Cary, NC 27511. Sullivan’s Highland Funeral Service & Crematory is assisting the family.
