Rebecca Byers White (Becky) was born January 14, 1920 to Charles William Byers and Hazel Williams Byers in Ft. Defiance, VA. At the age of 94, she passed away on December 21, 2014 in Fayetteville, NC.
She graduated from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. She married Robert J. White and moved to Clovis AFB. A few years later, they moved to Fayetteville, NC where she became a 2nd grade teacher at Westlawn Elementary School (now Alma Easom). She taught for 23 years. Becky missed teaching every day of her life; she always stated that teaching was the best vocation in the world. Becky was an active member of Highland Presbyterian Church. She visited with so many sick and elderly patients, always bringing her âfamousâ pound cake straight from the oven. Becky was also a charter member of the Fayetteville Rose Society and Delta Kappa Gamma.
Becky was married to Bob White for 70 years; her husband passed away one day before their 71st wedding anniversary. They have one surviving son, Robert J. White Jr from Senatobia, MS.
Surviving members of her family include two sisters: Mary Jane Kuklinski of Corpus Christi, TX and Eugenia (Jean) Morgan of Carolina Lakes/Sanford, NC. She has many nieces and nephews: Ann S. Copeland of Charlotte, NC, Dorothy Hawke of Clover, SC, Robert H. Byers of Murrells Inlet, SC, Charles R. Morgan Jr. of Durham, NC, Mary Cam M. Boudreau of Pine Knoll Shores, NC, Patricia M. Grimes of Cameron, NC, William M. Morgan of Sequin, TX, and Craig B. Morgan of Edmonds, WA.
Predeceased members of her family include her parents, her sister Virginia Frost of Charlotte, NC and her brother, Charles W. Byers, Jr. of Windy Hill Beach, SC.
The family wants to honor those that demonstrated their love in the care of Becky following two broken hips: Carillon Assisted Living, the 7th floor orthopedic nurses and doctors at CFVH, and the doctors at Cape Fear Orthopedics. Our hearts have been filled with the love and support from so many friends Becky and her husband shared from the Morganton Road neighborhood, members of Highland Presbyterian Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Fayetteville Rose Society, and many more.
Joint funeral services for Becky and her husband are scheduled at Highland Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville, NC at 11:00 a.m. on January 7, 2015. Burial will be at the cemetery adjacent to the Chapel of the Good Shepherd in Ridgeway, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Baddour Memorial Center, P. O. Box 97 in Senatobia, MS 38668 for the continued care of their son, Joe White.
