Mrs. Nell Elizabeth Godbold Canady

Nell Elizabeth Godbold Canady 76, transitioned to heaven on Thursday, April 21, 2016.

She was born on April 18, 1940 in Bennettsville S.C. to parents Samuel F. Godbold and Telatha Godbold who preceded her in death. She is sister to Judy Faircloth and Ginger Smith and the late Samuel Godbold Jr. She graduated from Stedman High School in 1959.

She is survived by her husband Ronald L. Canady and three children, Robin McLaurin (Keith), Ronnie Canady (Cathy), Jason Canady (Karen) and seven precious grandchildren, April Edwards (John), Matthew McLaurin, Paige C. Irving (Jeremy), Andrew Canady, Savannah, Jonathan and Colin Canady; two great-grandchildren, Chace Edwards and Hillary Irving.

Nell was a sweet, devoted follower of Jesus Christ and a long time member of Fayetteville Community Church and their choir. She lead a prayer chain for over ten years. She said, “There’s no greater honor than to pray for someone.” Nell is remembered for her compassion and faithful service to the elderly, animals and anything stray. Nell often kept candy in her purse and a trail of children behind her. She was known by her wit, sly smile, and the ability to light up the room with her personality, and harnessed and radiated the power of life for all those around her.

In high school she rubbed the flat top haircut of her future soulmate while sitting behind him in the gym. They married while in school and enjoyed 57 years of marriage together.
