Mary Elizabeth âLibâ Trawick McKethan, of Fayetteville went to be with her Lord on December 12, 2016 at the Hope Mills Retirement Center. Her family members were at her side in her last hours.
She was born in Roberson County on September 17, 1921 to the late Rev. W.F. and Trula E. Trawick.
She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth A. McKethan of 68 years and her grandson, Jay McKethan.
Lib is survived by her three sons, Kenneth A. McKethan, Jr. and wife Joanna of Dunn, Robert N. McKethan and wife Cindy of Boone and James F. McKethan and wife Debbie, of Fayetteville; two grandsons, two granddaughters, and two great granddaughters.
She is also survived by grandchildren, Nathan A. McKethan and wife, Christie; Erika McKethan and husband, Charles; Jennifer McKethan, Jonathan McKethan and Devin OâConnor and two great granddaughters Colby McKethan and Kimberly Meads.
Following graduation from Biscoe High School, she attended Flora McDonald College where she was awarded a degree in elementary education. Lib was known for combining discipline with deep concern for every student during her distinguished teaching career. Many remember her quick wit. Upon retirement, she volunteered for the Red Cross and V.A. Hospital. She was a founding Elder of Reilly Road Presbyterian Church.
Visitation will be on Saturday, December 17, 2016 in the fellowship hall of Reilly Road Presbyterian Church from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service officiated by the Rev. Rogers Randall. A private family burial will be held at MacPherson Presbyterian cemetery.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Jay McKethan Scholarship Fund, Finance Department, Cumberland County Schools, Cumberland County Schools, 2491 Gillespie Street, Fayetteville, NC 28306.
The family extends their gratitude to the staff at Hope Mills Retirement Center in Hope Mills, NC who provided compassionate care during Libâs residence.
