Mrs. Mabel Giles Smith, 94, of 260 Old Tower Road, in the Mount Elam Church community, died peacefully surrounded by family Thursday, April 24, 2014.

Visitation will be in the church sanctuary at Mount Elam Baptist Church from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2014, and the family will be at 260 Old Tower Road today, April 26, 2014 and were there yesterday, April 25, 2014.

A funeral service will be held in Mount Elam Baptist Church on Sunday, April 27, 2014, at 5 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Mabel was born Aug. 3, 1919. She lived in the Williams Lake community.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harvis B. Smith (Mr & Mrs. Smith were married 70 years); her parents, Fred and Mollie Lee Giles; her sisters, Wilma Dupree, Aileen Dundon and Mildred Schoaf; and a brother, Hugh Giles.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She attended Antioch Church and Spring Branch Church, and for the last 75 years attended Mount Elam Baptist Church near Spiveys Corner. She sang in the choir, worked with the WMU and taught Sunday school classes. She taught preschool classes at Mingo School, and was a seamstress in Salemburg.

Mrs. Smith is survived by: Two sons, Nixon and wife, Lynn, and Keith both of Fayetteville; two sisters, Daisy Fogelson of Charlotte and Rebecca Joyce of Virginia; granddaughters, Susan Edwards and husband, Ken, of Charlotte, LeAnn Smith and husband, Daniel, of Fayetteville, Erika Wilson and husband, Tony, of Spring Lake, and Heather Edwards; grandsons, Stuart and wife, Cindy, of Newton Grove, and Jonathan Dewrell and wife, Stephanie, of Benson; great-granddaughters, Anna Edwards, Leilaini, Aulora and Annellina Steen, Viviann Wilson, Rae Edwards, Loralai and Ferrin Dewrell; great-grandsons, Luke Wilson, Daniel Smith, Jonathan Dewrell Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.
