Mrs. Jennie McLaurin

Jennie Culbreth McLaurin, 71 of Eastover, NC, passed away Friday, August 26 at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, NC.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Lizzie Culbreth, and four brothers, Donnie Culbreth, Dougald Culbreth, Jack Culbreth and Fulton Culbreth.  

She is survived by her husband, Norman Timothy (Tim) McLaurin; daughter Tammy Vickers and husband Billy of Wade, NC; son Darrell and wife Patty of Eastover NC; four grandchildren, Brett Gregory and wife Stephanie of Mobile, AL; Amy Gregory of Autryville, NC; Melynda McLaurin and Bethany McLaurin of Eastover, NC.  She is also survived by two great grandsons, Greyson and Lachlan Gregory of Mobile, AL; and brother, Kenneth Culbreth and wife Donna of Eastover.

Jennie was a lifelong resident of Eastover and a member of Salem United Methodist Church, serving as a member of the Juanita Warren Women’s Guild for over 30 years.  She worked as an administrative assistant for Cumberland County Department of Social Services and Highsmith Rainey Hospital.

Seeing the importance of after school care in the Eastover community, in the fall of 2000, she solely organized a fundraiser for Salem United Methodist After School program and raised over $6000 in private and public donations.  

She loved music and always had a song in her heart.  She was a wonderful mother, but her grandchildren were her passion and joy and she was lovingly devoted to all of them.

The family will receive friends at 2:00 pm, Sunday August 28th in the parlor of Salem United Methodist Church, 2165 Middle Rd, Eastover, NC, with funeral service immediately following at 3:00 pm.

The family would like to thank the Liberty Hospice staff, Dunn NC for the excellent and compassionate care they provided which enabled us to keep her at home for as long as possible.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem United Methodist Church After School program, 2165 Middle Rd, Eastover NC 28312 or SECU Hospice House, 426 Hospital Rd, Smithfield NC  27577.

Services are entrusted to Sullivan's Highland Funeral Service & Crematory.
