Irene Johnson Parks Hastings, 95, of Laurel, DE, formerly of Pocomoke City, MD and Parksley, VA, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Hope Mills Retirement Center in Hope Mills, NC. Born in Pocomoke City on August 6, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Janie E. Johnson Watson and the late William Frank Johnson. She was a graduate of Pocomoke High School, class of 1937, Beacom Business College in Wilmington, DE and U.S.D.A. School of Accounting.
She held executive positions at A & N Electric Coop in Parksley and Bank of Hallwood in Hallwood, VA; having lived in Parksley for 28 years. Her first husband, the late Oliver F. Parks, Jr. passed away in 1992. Making her home in Laurel since 1978, she was an associate member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Laurel and a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Parksley. At Centenary Church she was a member of U.M.W. and of Martha âRuth Circle. She was a former treasurer and long time member of Laurel New Century Club , financial secretary of Martha Rebekah Lodge #21, a member of AARP #1084 of Seaford, DE, a member and treasurer for Laurel Chapter # 18 O.E.S., and a member of Seaford Chapter #7 O.E.S. She was also a member of Nanticoke Hospital Auxiliary, a former member of The Board of Directors at Laurel Senior Center and a member of Laurel and Bethel, DE Historical Societies.
She is survived by a son, Dallas F. Parks and his wife Susan of Raeford, NC; a daughter, Diane Parks Kellam and her husband Nicky W. of Chattanooga, TN; two grandsons, Neil W. Kellam and his wife Jennifer of Chattanooga, and Trevor D. Parks and his wife Pennie of Austintown, OH; one granddaughter, Kelly Kellam Harris and her husband Clint of Mayfield, KY; three great-grandsons, Holden Ross Harris, Lincoln Cole Harris, and Kaleb Wayne Kellam; one great-granddaughter, Kayle Renee Kellam; one niece, Betty Lou Outten of Pocomoke City; and one nephew, Wayne Wilkerson of Pocomoke City. She was preceded in death by her husband, G. Lee Hastings; two sisters, Eunice J. Wilkerson and Margaret J. Brittingham; a brother, Carlton L. Johnson; and a niece, Patricia W. Crouch. Her life was centered around her family.
A private graveside service for the family, will be held at the Parksley Cemetery.
