Elizabeth Allen Soule Hudspeth, a longtime resident of Fayetteville, died Friday the 10th of April.

Born in 1930 in Charlotte, NC, Elizabeth received a diploma from Mercy School of Nursing, a BSN from Georgetown University, and a MSN in Nursing Administration from UNC-Chapel Hill.

Early in her nursing career she was both an emergency room staff nurse and Co-Director of Nursing Services at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte, NC.  She later became an instructor at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing.

In 1962 she served as a medical surgical nurse with Project Hope on Ship Hope in Peru.  In service with Project Hope, her mission was to provide medical care, health education and humanitarian assistance to people in need in Peru.

Elizabeth joined the United States Army Nurse Corps in 1965.  She taught medical and surgical subjects in a 91C nursing school.

In the early 1970s she served as a nurse at both Cape Fear Valley Hospital and Womack Army Hospital on medical surgical floors.

In 1972 Elizabeth developed and directed Home Health Services of Cumberland County, Inc.  The agency was the first home health and hospice service provider in the region.  She served as the executive director of the agency until the sale of the agency and her retirement in 2007.

The Elizabeth A Hudspeth Endowment Fund was created in 2008 with proceeds from the sale of the agency.  Grants from the fund provide financial assistance for the provision of health services in the area to qualified nonprofit organizations.

Elizabeth is survived by her children Jennette M Reynoso of Columbus, GA, Susan M McAllister of Fayetteville, NC, Carol F Hudspeth (Kevin P Anderson) of Arlington, VA and Christopher A Hudspeth of Hollywood, FL.  She is also survived by grandchildren Andrew B Hudspeth (Jennifer), Lauren M McAllister, Robert A Reynoso, Hunter R McAllister, Noel G Anderson, Natalie C Anderson and great-grandchild Landon Hudspeth.  She has two surviving sisters, Laurel Winslow and Constance L Vickers, plus many nieces, nephews and other loved ones.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband Clair L Hudspeth, daughter Debra A Hudspeth and son Joseph E Hudspeth.

The family will receive family and friends from 7 to 9 pm Friday, April 17 at Sullivan's Highland Funeral Service, 610 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville.  A funeral mass will be celebrated at 2 pm Saturday, April 18 at Saint Ann Catholic Church, 365 North Cool Spring Street, Fayetteville, followed by a gathering in the church social hall.  Graveside services will be conducted at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
