Dorothy “Dottie†Pauline J. Smith, 91, of Fayetteville, passed away at her residence on Tuesday, March 1, 2016.
She was born in Harnett County on April 16, 1924, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry and Lishie Johnson.
She retired from management at the Ft. Bragg telephone company after 20 plus years of dedicated service. During her employment at Ft. Bragg, she met her husband, Ret. MSG Dock Ed Smith, who preceded her in death. During his career in the military they were fortunate enough to travel and make many special friends. They enjoyed spending their spare time at the bowling alley.
Dorothy and her husband, Ed, were founding members of College Lakes Baptist Church in the 1950's. Both, were very active in the church until their respective deaths.
Dorothy is survived by her brother, Billy Johnson and wife, Margaret of Erwin; sister-in-law, Peggy Johnson of Erwin, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service, officiated by Rev. Samuel Lanier is planned for 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 4, 2016, at College Lakes Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park. A reception will follow the burial in the fellowship hall.
