Mrs. Doris Eileen Bratton

Doris “Eileen” Walls Bratton, 86, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, died on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. She was born on February 7, 1929, in Athens, Ohio, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Oliver and Helen Dillinger Walls.

She was preceded in death by her husband, LTC William DuBose Bratton (U.S. Army retired), and her brother, Oliver “Ronnie” Walls.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharen Savelle (David) of Tallahassee, Florida, and her sister, Karen Walls Mechem (Buck) of Hanford, California, many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and wonderfully caring friends and neighbors who were of great comfort to her in her final years.

She was a 1947 graduate of Athens High School and member of the band and honor society who was recruited by and worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C., right out of high school and subsequently worked for the Department of the Navy in Washington, D.C., and the Department of the Army at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. She was an avid, lifelong bowler who represented her country in 1964 as a member of the United States Women’s Team that earned bronze medals at the 3rd Inter-American Championship in Caracas, Venezuela. At the end of her working career, she was a bookkeeper for Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Fayetteville, North Carolina. In her retirement, she enjoyed gardening and travel, especially cruises.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 8, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and the family will receive friends in the church following the service.
A burial service will be held graveside at Clark’s Chapel Cemetery in Athens, Ohio, on Friday, February 12, 2016, at 1 p.m., and prior to burial the family will receive friends at Hughes Moquin Funeral Home in Athens beginning at 11 a.m.
