Mrs. Deloris Ann Newell Vazquez, 79, died Friday, January 10, 2014, in Fayetteville. She was born October 7, 1934, in Unionville, Missouri to the late Edgar Lee and Nellie Clark Newell.

She graduated from Unionville High School in 1952, and moved to Kansas City, working as an executive secretary with Trans World Airlines.  It was there that she met her husband Hercilio Vazquez. Hercilio graduated from dental school in 1959 and later entered the US Army.  They served in several military locations around the world, retiring in the Fayetteville area in 1978. For many years, Deloris was the manager of Great American Travel.

She is survived by her sisters Deleta Castle of Marshall, Mo. and Jennifer Parsons of Des Moines, Iowa; sons, Eddie Vazquez and wife, Michele of Richmond, Mo., Tony Vazquez of Knoxville, Tenn., and Freddie Vazquez of Clearwater, Fla.; daughters, Lilia Vazquez-Hunter and husband, Fred Hunter, of Charlotte, and Linda Vazquez of Fayetteville; and grandson, Andrew Hunter of Charlotte. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Hercilio Vazquez, in September 2013.

A funeral service to commemorate the life of Deloris Ann Newell Vazquez will be held at Haymount United Methodist Church 1700 Fort Bragg Road, Fayetteville, NC, 28303 on Monday, January 13,2014, at 11 a.m., with visitation to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Fayetteville Animal Protection Society, 3927 Bragg Blvd., Fayetteville, NC 28303, fapspet.org.
