Mrs. Bessie Lee Baker Hoggard, 100, of Fayetteville, NC went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 7, 2015, in Autumn Care of Shallotte, NC, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on May 31, 1914, in Cumberland County, NC to the late Benjamin and Elizabeth Baker.

She was a 30 year Civil Service employee and retired from the G/1 Safety Division headquarters at Fort Bragg, NC.  She was also a lifelong member of First Baptist Church. She loved God and First Baptist Church where she was one of the oldest living members.  

She was a wonderful, caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister to her family.  

She was preceded in death in addition to her parents; her husband Bertram “Mr. Bert” H. Hoggard Sr.; one son Bertram “Bert” H. Hoggard II; four sisters Lemma Gordon, Lillian Howard, Grace Grubbs, and Lucille Marshall.

She is survived by one daughter Becky Hoggard Prevatte, and husband Henry Iredell “Dell” Prevatte, of Holden Beach, NC; one granddaughter Jennifer Barker, and husband Brent Barker, two great-grandchildren Garrett Barker and Jordan Barker, all of Fayetteville, NC.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church on Anderson Street.  Funeral services will follow at 1:30 p.m. in First Baptist Church sanctuary with the Rev. A. Edward Beddingfield Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street.

In Bessie’s 100 years of life she touched many lives that her legacy will carry on for generations.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church 201 Anderson Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301.
