Mrs. Anna “Lorraine” H. VanMatre peacefully passed away at Highland House in Fayetteville, NC on Wednesday, October 15, 2014  She was  95 years old.  Lorraine was born March 24, 1919 in Oskaloosa, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her sister Betty Jeane Koster; parents, Lewis and Lottie Barnett; brothers-in-law, Larry Reeb and Bill Wilcox and beloved husband, Lt. Colonel David Franklin VanMatre.  

She is survived by sisters Mary Reeb; Billye (Al) Betsworth and Charlotte (Don) Parker all of Topeka, Ks.  Lorraine graduated Topeka High School in 1937.  She was a member of the debate team and was a champion speller.

She and David were married in San Francisco, CA. and were awarded travel to several foreign countries compliments of the United States Air Force.   Early in their marriage, Lorraine became interested in duplicate bridge and won myriad contests with various partners over the years.  She had more Life Master Bridge Points than anyone could count.  Dave was last assigned to Pope Air Force Base and Fayetteville became their home.  

Lorraine’s husband, her family and friends, her bridge and her dogs Kurt, Kurtie and Pal, made her life full and rewarding.  She leaves behind many family members and friends who will always remember her cheerful personality and her amazing memory. She had a passion for animals, especially dogs, and gave regularly to projects and causes for canines.  

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Fayetteville Animal Protection Society.

Friends may visit with family members on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Sullivan's Highland Funeral Service from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm, prior to  the service. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm.
