Mr. Walter Rufus Guy Sr.

Mr. Walter Rufus Guy, Sr., 89, of Fayetteville, NC, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Autumn Care of Fayetteville.

He was born on October 15, 1924, in Robeson County, NC to the late Gary Guy and Gladys Hicks Guy.

After serving in the United States Marine Corps, in the pacific, Walter R. Guy Sr., completed formal training in watch making, jewelry repair, and engraving with Hatchers Jewelers in 1946 where he began his career.  Much of his hand-engraving can be seen on items displayed in the 82nd Airborne Museum on Fort Bragg.  

In 1963 Walter opened his own jewelry store in downtown Fayetteville where the present day police station resides.  Then in 1974 Walter Guy Jewelers was incorporated and relocated to Westwood Shopping Center until 2010 when the business moved back to downtown at its present location 220 Hay Street.  

Walter R. Guy and his wife Ruby, were among a handful of friends that formed and founded Northwood Temple.  Walter served for many years as treasurer and as a trustee of the church.  He was a faithful servant and member of Northwood Temple from the church's beginning until his final day.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby Tyner Guy and daughter Janice Guy Clayton.
He is survived by one son Walter R. Guy Jr., and three grandchildren Becky Thompson, Rob Clayton, and Ashley Clayton; six great-grandchildren Heather, Justin, Rachel, Harley, Robert, and Peter.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 10, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Northwood Temple.  Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. in Northwood Temple with Dr. John  Hedgepeth officiating.  Burial will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park.
