Mr. Thomas (TJ) Barnes
Thomas (TJ) Barnes, 80, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016, at Duke Raleigh Hospital.
He was born on March 17, 1936 in Harnett County to the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas and Mabel Barnes.
After graduating from NC State, TJ worked for several years with Soil Conservation Service. He later held various Civil Engineering roles at Ft. Bragg. He was a Deacon and Elder at First Presbyterian Church, where he made several missionary trips to Haiti and Mexico. He was an avid Wolfpack fan and enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and spending time with his family.
TJ is survived by his wife, JoAnn; daughter, Melanie and husband, Burbank Herndon; grandchildren, Thomas and Kate Herndon; sisters, Wilma and husband, Bill Caldwell, Laurie Stephenson; several nephews and one niece.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11am on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will follow at 11am in the sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to First Presbyterian Church.
