Roger Gardner, 87, of Fayetteville, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Cape Fear Valley Hoke Hospital.
He was born in Iowa on February 17, 1929 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Clem and Bertha Gardner.
He worked on the Chicago-Northwestern Railroad for over 35 years as a Conductor and Brakeman. He was an avid farmer and gardener. He had a passion for restoring antique tractors, especially Farmall. After retiring from the railroad, his family moved to Olympia, WA where he began his second career as a tour bus driver in Anchorage, AK. Then he moved to North Carolina to be closer to his daughter and her family.
Roger is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Darlene; daughter, Kaye Thede and husband, Tim of Fayetteville, NC; sons, Brian Gardner of Vancouver, WA, and Scott Gardner of Des Moines, IA; six grandchildren; sister, Kathleen George; brothers, Eugene Gardner and Floyd Gardner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is planned for a later date near Silverton, SD.
