Mr. Richard Samuel Liles

Richard (Sam) Liles, 69 passed away at his beloved “blue house” in Fayetteville, NC  on March 19, 2015 surrounded by loved ones.

Sam was born on June 6, 1945 in Chicago, IL  to the late Carnell Liles and Rosalie Allen Liles.

He joined the Army in 1967 and retired as a Master Sergeant after  22 years of service.  Along with his stateside duty he served tours in Korea, Vietnam and Germany.   After retiring from the Army he worked at Ft Bragg until he retired.  

Sam never met a stranger and was always welcoming neighbors and friends into his home.  He had a very strong faith and truly believed that the Lord would always take care of him.

Survivors include: 4  children, Richard S. Liles II of Hampton,  VA;  John M. Liles (MAJ Jennifer Reyes) of Ft Hood, TX;  Shaun P. Liles (Stephanie Yoak) of Lexington, SC and Shannon Nguyen of Raleigh, NC; 7 grandchildren ; 2 brothers, Jerry Liles of Waverly, TN;  Phil Liles of Elkhart, IN and sister Alice (Jim Hester) of Riudoso, NM.

The family would like to thank his neighbors and friends for loving him and caring for him right up until his final hours and to Patricia for giving Sam’s  beloved cat Marvin a furever home.

A memorial service will be held Sat April 4th from 2-4 at Sullivan’s Funeral Home, Ramsey St, Fayetteville, NC.  The family will gather this summer and release his ashes at Top Sail Beach, one of his favorite spots.
