Mr. Lawrence Milton (Larry) Priest died on Thursday, January 28, 2016.
Born to Lawrence A. Priest and Mary Thames Priest on May 2, 1935 in Hope Mills, NC.
He graduated from Hope Mills High School and attended Campbell University .
Served in the U.S. Army and the reserves.
He was an active member of the Hope Mills Methodist Church for 50 years, served on many committees and sang in the choir. He was very active in the Hope Mills Community, where he served on the Hope Mills Town Board as Water Commissioner.
Larry was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church, were he was an elder and a member of the Chancel Choir, for 25 years. He served on many committees in the church. He sang with the Cumberland Oritorial Singers and the Fayetteville Barber Shop Quartet.
He served on the Cumberland County Auditorium Commission and was on the Board of Directors for the Cape Fear Regional Theater for 20 years. In their home hosted many of the actors.
Larry was employed by Nationwide Insurance for 35 years and retired in 1995 and moved to Pinehurst and enjoyed the golfing community and the Pinehurst Member Club.
He has continued to enjoy his mountain home at Fleetwood Falls, NC for 32 years. He enjoyed biking, hiking, gardening and traveling.
He was able to travel to many countries through the CIU (Citizens for International Understanding of NC) , creating many long lasting friendships and hosting families in their home from many countries.
Left to cherish his memory, his High School Sweet Heart and wife of 60 years, Sue McKinnon Priest.
Preceded in death by his brothers, Dennis Priest and Charles Priest.
Survived by his daughter, Barbara Sue Marshall of Wake Forest, NC; son, Lawrence Michael Priest of Fayetteville, NC and five grandchildren, Michael Brooks Priest of Greenville, NC, Davis McKinnon Priest of Clayton, NC, Rebecca Lawren Priest of Clayton, NC , Jessica Carol Marshall of Youngsville, NC, Juliana Marshall Sargent and husband, Jared E. Sargent of Clayton, NC, and one great-granddaughter, McKinnley Rae Sargent of Clayton, NC.
A memorial service will be held at Highland Presbyterian Church, 111 Highland Ave., Fayetteville, NC on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. A visitation and reception will be held after the memorial service. A private burial service will be preformed at Hope Mills Cemetery.
