John Emory (Ed) Brown, 85, of Charlotte, NC, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, June 10, 2015.
He was born on December 23, 1929 in Sumter, SC. He was the son of the late Edgar E. and Hettie A. Brown.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen Albert Brown and daughter Cheryl L. Brown, both of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by his sister Susie Grainger of Pamplico, SC, and many special nieces and nephews. In addition, he was a special Paw Paw to Miss Katie Rush and Mr. Ethan Campbell and neighbor to Joy McAuley. He was preceded in death by his brothers, George (Sonny) and Dreyfus Brown.
Before his relocation to Charlotte to be closer to Cheryl, he was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church in Fayetteville. He thoroughly enjoyed singing in the church choir with Sherry Phillips and the group, and participating as âhead baked bean chefâ for the spring and fall BBQs. He served stateside in the Army during the Korean War then went on to devote over 40 years of his life to chemical glue sales for Southern Resin in Fayetteville before retiring in 1995. Ed enjoyed playing golf with family and friends, especially Dean Carper and Mark Fincher.
Ed was a devoted fan of the University of North Carolina Tarheels.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers who gave their love and time, including Sallie Black, Sabrena Abernathy, Pauline Caldwell, Twanika Link, Curleen Crank, Roberta Dula and Amelia Wilson.
The family will receive family and friends at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Christ United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, NC. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m., with burial at Fayetteville Memorial Cemetery.
