Mr. James S. "Joe" Stilwell
Ret. US Air Force Chief MSG James S. "Joe" Stilwell, 93, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2014 after a lengthy illness.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Katherine Coble Stilwell; his daughters, Sylvia Stilwell of Charlotte, NC, Charlotte Surman and her husband Wayne of Marietta, GA; his granddaughter, Meghan Sabra Deville of Denver, CO.
Joe retired after 22 years in the US Air Force. He also retired from the Civil Service at Pope Air Force Base and Equitable Life Assurance. His passion was flying.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Highland Presbyterian Church. Burial will be private. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall of the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial be made to United Hospice of Smithfield, 322 North Brightleaf Boulevard, Suite C, Smithfield, NC 27577; or Highland Presbyterian Church. The family is grateful for the care and compassion of the caregivers from United Hospice and AmeriCare for Joe's last months.
