Jerry Douglas Connally, 76, of Parkton, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
He was born on May 18, 1938, in Gladewater, Texas, to the late Joseph and Velma Connally.
After retiring from the US. Army National Guard as a staff sergeant, Jerry then joined the education field as budget director of Tarheel Challenge.
If Jerry wasn't reading, he was sure to be found doing one of his crossword puzzles.
He carried himself throughout the day with a sense of humor and jokes that could make anyone laugh.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce; daughter, Sharolyn Herndon and husband Steve of Fayetteville; brother, Jim Connally and wife Kathy of Gonzales, Texas; grand-daughters, Amanda Snader and husband Jeremy of Raeford, Amber Walker of New Salisbury, Ind.; great-grandsons, Jayden Snader and Skyler Wetzel.
His family received friends at Sullivan's Highland Funeral Service, from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014. A funeral service will be conducted at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Raeford, at 11 a.m., today, Aug. 29, 2014, with the Rev. Tommy Underwood officiating the service. Interment will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park West on Raeford Road.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tabernacle Baptist Church Building Fund, 3219 Lindsay Road, Raeford, NC 28376.
