Mr. Hugh Wilton McNeill, 82, of Fayetteville, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014, in the VA Nursing Facility.
He served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Korea shortly after the Korean War, where he was a communications instructor.
He was born to and preceded in death to his parents, retired Deputy Sheriff David and Lillian Bain McNeill of Wade. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Robert E. of Fayetteville and David of Wade, Charles of Jacksonville and James McNeill of Sacramento, Calif.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Violet Lovick McNeill of Fayetteville, son, John Hugh and wife, Jane Carlton McNeill and their children, Katie and Rebecca McNeill of Charleston, S.C.; and a daughter, Anne McNeill Laviner and her daughters, Sarah and Maggie Laviner of Wagram and son, Ben Laviner of Greenville; and brother, Carl McNeill of Myrtle Beach, S.C.
A visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014, in Highland Presbyterian Church parlor. A service will be held at 3 p.m. in the church sanctuary with the Rev. Dr. Ewart âDocâ Wyle and the Rev. Dr. J. Ernest Johnson officiating. Burial immediately following the service at the Old Bluff Cemetery in Wade.
He and his brother Carl were co-owners of Highland Insurance Agency in Fayetteville for more than 30 years. He was an active member and Sunday school teacher of the John M. Wilson Menâs class at Highland Presbyterian Church. He thoroughly enjoyed playing softball and golf, but spent most of his time enjoying watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports and other various activities.
