He was born in Fayetteville, NC, on May 1, 1945, to Dr. and Mrs. Edward Newton Smith Senior.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Edward Newton Smith and sister, Ms. Dollie Smith.
Newton Jr. is survived by his son Newton Smith and wife Lisa Smith; daughter, Laura (Smith) Cummings; son-in-law, Jay Cummings; grand daughters Ashley and Kathleen Cummings; brother Carey Smith of Fayetteville and Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Smith of Lexington, NC. He also is survived by his nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorials can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association or the charity of your choice.
A private family service will be held at a later time.
