Mr. David William Valentine

David William Valentine, 73, of Fayetteville, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2016, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, while surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Maryland on March 15, 1943, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Marshall “Bud” and Colene Valentine.

David proudly served as a SGT in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War as a combat engineer.  He worked for 23 years at Kelly Springfield.  David and Mary were avid campers, who could often be found at Myrtle Beach in their RV.  He was a selfless man, loving father, and a hard worker, who enjoyed spending time with his family.  He was most proud of the fact that he raised his grandchildren, Tommy and Melissa.

David is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Mary; daughters, Mary Beth Jones of Fayetteville, Sharri Kellermann of Lenoir; granddaughters, Melissa Rittenhouse of Fayetteville, Shiann Jones of Fayetteville, Samantha Kellermann of Lenoir; grandsons, Tommy Rittenhouse and wife, Ginger of Fayetteville, Ben Jones of Fayetteville; great grandchildren, Chance Barefoot, Presley Rittenhouse, and Marshall Jones; brother, Jim Valentine and wife, Dolly of Hope Mills; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved granddog, Lily.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Sullivan's Highland Funeral Service.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 21, 2016, in the chapel of Sullivan's Highland Funeral Service.  Burial with full military honors will follow at Sandhills State Veteran's Cemetery.
