Mr. Daniel Gaston âBuckâ Johnson Jr., 89, of Fayetteville, NC, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2015, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on January 30, 1926, in Fayetteville, NC to the late Daniel Gaston Johnson Sr., and Gerthy Clyde Benton Johnson.
At age 17, with his motherâs consent he served as a tail gunner in the U.S. Navy during WWII. After serving his country Buck, returned to Fayetteville, where he joined the Fayetteville Fire Department as a volunteer and later became a paid fireman. Buck served as a fireman for the City for Fayetteville, for over 38 years prior to retiring as a Captain. He also formerly operated his own upholstery business at his home. Family was the most important thing in his life; his most memorable times were spent with family at White Lake.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Murriel âBillieâ Willard Johnson, of the home; two daughters Susan Pickhardt, and husband Paul, of Simpsonville, SC, and Katherine Eslyn, and husband Lance, of Mount Olive, NC; and two sons Charles Michael Johnson, of Swansea, SC and Chris Johnson, and wife Pamela, of Eastover, NC; 11 grandchildren Jon Pickhardt, Kurt Pickhardt, Erin Lambert, Cole Eslyn, Austin Eslyn, Ana Eslyn, Kayley Mayhew, Cody Johnson, Ethan Johnson, Evan Johnson, and Mason Johnson; five great-grandchildren Griffin Pickhardt, Jackson Pickhardt, Mary Cole Lambert, Weston Lambert and Clara Mayhew; a niece Janet Johnson and a nephew Danny Johnson.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 12, 2015, from 9:45 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Sullivanâs Highland Funeral Service. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in Sullivanâs Highland Funeral
Service Chapel. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park.
