A precious soul has left this Earth. Bobby "Spider" Wrenn, 82, of Fayetteville, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2014, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
He was born April 16, 1931, in Cumberland County, to the late Brice and Churchill Wrenn.
He served 29 years in the U.S. Army which included a tour in Vietnam. He held several positions having to do with sport parachuting and was a member of the U.S. Army Parachute Team, "The Golden Knights," performing freefall jumps all over the world, and later becoming first sergeant of the team. Prior to this, Mr. Wrenn was with the 440th Army Band as a drummer and head drum major. He later had his own band, The Bobby Wrenn Orchestra. After retiring, Mr. Wrenn spent 28 years in real estate.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Golden Knights Alumni Association, and a member of LaGrange Park Baptist Church.
Mr. Wrenn was preceded in death by his son, Robert A. Wrenn; his daughter, Bobbi Jean DiGuardi; and sister, Joanne Kohler.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nancy Wrenn; and four grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2014, at LaGrange Park Baptist Church fellowship hall, Ascot Avenue, off Reilly Road in Fayetteville, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. in the church sanctuary.
