Andrew Garland Smith Sr. - Fayetteville - Garland Smith, 90, died Feb 20, 2014 after a short illness.
Mr. Smith was born October 23, 1923 in Robersonville, NC. He was a veteran of World War II, a graduate of N.C. State, an agricultural extension agent, a merchant, a farmer, a Mason and a Shriner. His life was marked by service to God, family, neighbor and country.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 63 years Cathrine Edgeworth Smith. He is survived by four sons: Andy and wife Tricia of Eastover, Mike and wife Mary of Asheville, Willie and wife Carol of Smithfield, and Sam and wife Mary Jo of Fayetteville; six grandchildren: Drew, Clay, Rhett, Kevin, Jackson and Catie Jo; and one great grandchild Bennett.
A memorial service will be held Sunday February 23 at Hay Street United Methodist Church at 3:00 pm. The family will receive friends at the farm Saturday, and following the service at the church Sunday.
