Michael R. Pluhta of Fayetteville passed away on December 5, 2016, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
He was born in Braddock, PA, to the late Michael F. and Stephanie A. Pluhta.
Mike proudly served as a tank commander and sergeant in the 1st Calvary unit of the U.S. Army. During his enlistment, he was stationed in Korea and in Germany. He had an abiding interest in military history, particularly World War II aircraft.
Mike began his career in the steel industry in Pittsburgh, PA, with the American Bridge Division of the US Steel Corporation. In 1996 he relocated to Fayetteville to join the Hercules Steel Company, though he always remained an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
He is survived by his brother Pete (Mary), his sister Marianne Ryan (Paul Kapfer), and four nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Thursday, January 12 at Sullivanâs Highland Funeral service. A mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:30 am on Friday, January 13 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Fayetteville. Burial will follow at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.
