Martha Sharon Gunkel, age 70, of Eastover, NC, passed away, February 20, 2023, at home with her devoted husband right by her side.

Born on December 19, 1952, in Cumberland County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Phillips and Catherine Hurst.

Martha was a homemaker and an integral part of raising her daughter and assisting with her grandchildren and great grandchild.  To Martha, the word "Family" meant everything.  Martha was an active member of Covenant Love Church, working in the nursery, as a greeter, and hosting a Small Group as well.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Harold Gunkel II., her grandson, Adam Gunkel, and siblings, Cathy Phillips and Joe Phillips.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 53 years, Harold Gunkel; daughter, Cathy Gunkel Tanner and husband Keith; granddaughter, Kaylee Tanner Hope and husband Taylon; and a great grandchild, Ryder Gunkel; sister, Joanne Lovick and husband Larry; sister-in-law, Phillis Reid and husband Robert; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, lifelong friends that are considered family, and her Covenant Love Family.

The family extends a special thank you to all of our friends and family that prayed, that provided a meal, and those that reached out to check on us.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at 1 pm at Covenant Love Church.  The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 12 pm until 1 pm.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation payable to Covenant Love Kids Summer Camp, 420 Dunn Road, Fayetteville, NC 28312, to help the less fortunate  have the means to attend this amazing camp.
